Meet the child
Kira is a three-year old lovely girl who fights canser. The baby grew up in a happy loving family, until recently she did not get sick. The trouble came from whence it was not expected. In February and April, Kira was twice admitted to the intensive care unit for treatment of severe intoxication caused by a viral infection. When symptoms of severe headache and vomiting resumed, anxious parents sought help. The CT scan revealed a volumetric neoplasm of the brain.
Choroid plexus tumors are uncommon brain tumors that primarily occur in children. The tumor is aggressive and is growing rapidly. Surgical removal of the tumor was performed urgently in the Belarussian Research Center for Pediatric Oncology, Hematology and Immunology, Borovlyany.
At the moment, the baby is undergoing treatment according to the protocol, chemotherapy has been started. The treatment is complex, includes in addition to surgical treatment and drugs, radiation therapy. Today, the child’s body is heavily weakened, complete blood count is deteriorating constantly. Given the small age of the child, it is vitally important to choose the optimal method of radiation therapy. High aiming accuracy of the beam during proton therapy delivers higher targeted doses of radiation directly to affect the tumor minimizing radiation exposure to nearby healthy tissue which is especially important in the treatment of head tumors at children. And this means the opportunity to make the treatment as sparing as possible for small patients, significantly reduce the risks of side effects and avoid serious consequences and further problems in the development of the child.
Today, proton beam therapy is not available in the Republic of Belarus. Specialists of the Dr. Berezin Medical Center, St. Petersburg, Russia, will accept the kid for treatment upon a letter of guarantee from the foundation. Hospitalization date is appointed on the 30th of July.
Dear benefactors, we ask you not to waste precious time to save the child. Kira is a gentle and impressionable girl. Like any child of her age, she is driven by a natural impulse to learn about the world, to discover everything new and interesting. However, today the child's world is filled with fear and pain. The family, as they can, protects and supports their little princess. Your help and belief in a favorable outcome of treatment will give the Gramovich family the strength to fight.
Thank you for your help to save Kira's life!
