Meet the child
Karina has bilateral chronic sensorineural hearing loss. This is a congenital or acquired hearing loss due to damage to the structures of the inner ear, the central sections of the auditory analyzer, and the vestibulocochlear nerve. There are chronic, acute, or sudden, form of the disease.
When Karinochka was about 4 months old, caring parents noticed that the baby did not respond to their voice.
At 1 year and 7 months. (08/17/2016) the girl underwent surgery to install a cochlear implant in her right ear. A month later, in September, an OPUS 2 speech processor from MED-EL was connected to the implant, which was given to the family for free. Thanks to the speech processor, as well as constant training, the girl was able to deliver oral and written speech.
The replacement of the existing speech processor was supposed to happen in September 2021. (due to the fact that the device is out of order). Unfortunately, the Republican Scientific and Practical Center for Otorhinolaryngology (Minsk) cannot provide a new speech processor for the girl. Karina's family is also unable to purchase the device due to it's high cost.
Thanks to caring people, a new speech processor was purchased for the girl. Dear benefactors, thank you for continuing to change the lives of the Foundation's children for the better!
